West Paw Design
West Paw Design, which makes environmentally-conscious pet products, has a commitment to ecologically-friendly production that extends to their building. When they decided to build a new manufacturing facility in 2001, West Paw knew they needed flexibility to expand in the future, and sought a way to make the process as efficient as possible. Comma-Q designed a system of precast concrete walls and a pre-engineered clear-span roof system that resulted in a 12,000 square foot manufacturing area free of columns, bearing walls, and other intrusions – all erected in less than three weeks. The foundation for the building utilizes an innovative helical pier system to economically mitigate poor soil-bearing conditions. Other notable features of the building include the use of translucent panels to provide uniform daylighting in the manufacturing area, energy-efficient lighting, water-efficient plumbing fixtures, and environmentally-friendly finishes.
