Trail Head/Missoula Mercantile Warehouse

Jan 2009 Project-Type:

Trailhead- interiorThe historic Missoula Mercantile Warehouse, constructed circa 1891, originally served as warehouse space for the Missoula Mercantile, a primary source of goods and materials during the early development of Missoula.

Trailhead- roofIn 2003 Comma-Q Architecture, Inc. assisted The Trail Head in rehabilitating this historic structure into a vibrant retail business. This new use allowed for the removal of decades worth of added interior partitions and other components, restoring the space to its original warehouse configuration. This allowed the simple industrial interior finishes and large wood and steel trusses to once again become featured components of the space. Many components of the final design were constructed from recycled materials that were removed during the selective demolition phase of the project. Work on this federally registered historic building was completed in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
