Let the design-making and ground-breaking begin, Bozeman Daily Chronicle “MSU chooses site for new College of Business building”:

“The north Wilson site is a great extension of our core of academic buildings and it will fit well into our plans to have a pedestrian-friendly campus,” MSU President Wade Cruzado said. “Additionally, nearly 1,400 students will live within one block of this building in neighboring residence halls.”

The north Wilson site had several advantages over the other two sites, offering more room than the Hamilton site and being more closely connected to the core of academic buildings on campus, Cruzado said.

With the site selected, the university can proceed with architectural design and preconstruction planning. However, the 2013 Montana Legislature still needs to approve final construction. With that approval, ground could be broken in spring 2013 with completion in 2015. The new College of Business building will be roughly 45,000 square feet, three stories tall and a minimum of LEED silver certified.

The decision on where to build Montana State University’s new $18 million College of Business was handed off to President Waded Cruzado on Thursday, when a building committee voted that all three sites are acceptable, with most favoring the site next door to the new Chemistry Research building.…

The building is envisioned to be three stories tall, with about 45,000 square feet of space, roughly the size of the new Animal Bioscience building. Walt Banziger, in charge of facilities planning at MSU, said the campus master plan calls for building densely in the core of campus before spreading out.…

The Board of Regents has given MSU the green light to design the building. It still must go to the Legislature for approval before actual construction can begin.

This is the Kiwi House, an 823 square-foot abode in Bozeman, Montana. The home, owned by Stephen and Julie Shea, was designed by Comma-Q Architecture with the hearth — a soapstone fireplace from Finland-based Tulikivi — radiating warmth from open kitchen and living room area. It’s constructed on an infill lot and covered in a combination of locally-sourced Montana stone and reclaimed redwood and metal.

The home is oriented to the sun and captures energy with a photovoltaic system. To keep energy bills down, it also has “super-insulated construction,” according to Comma-Q.

Where to build a new College of Business sparked some strong opinions Thursday on the Montana State University campus. Parking, costs and community access were concerns voiced at a noon public forum, attended by about two dozen people.

The public pay parking lot across Grant Street from the SUB is one of three final sites being considered for the new College of Business.… Two other sites under consideration are the reserved parking lot next to Hamilton Hall, which is used by the president and other central administrators, and the grassy area just downhill from Wilson Hall, east of the new Chemistry Research building.…

MSU is planning to build a new $18 million College of Business, thanks to a $25 million donation from furniture entrepreneur and alum Jake Jabs.… MSU is planning to make it an environmentally friendly, LEED-certified “silver” building, said Bozeman architect Ben Lloyd.

The Kiwi Home is a tiny, tiny house residing in Bozeman, MT. The entire eco-friendly home takes up 823 square feet of land. Sustainable architecture was implemented in the building of the single-family home; it faces the sun and is centered around a hearth. The modern hearth is a wood-burning, Tulikivi soapstone fireplace. The fireplace works with radiant heating in the home’s polished, concrete floor, which creates a sustainable and cost-effective heat source. The small, modern home also features super-insulated construction and photovoltaic panels.
