MSU College of Business project Informational Open House
Meeting 1.2 was Feb 2 2012, Reid Hall 415
(Meeting Calendar)

The three main objectives in the Programming Phase:

What goes in the building?
How big is the building?
Where is the building?

The Design Team Goals are:
Listen & Learn / Establish a Common Language / Develop Evaluation Criteria

Kathleen Kavanaugh, Programming Consultant, asked the attendees their thoughts about the Site, the Building, and the Role the Building Should Play for MSU. Among the responses:

Consider the green space.
Removed car parking spaces should be relocated.
Bike parking area.
The building needs to assist in developing partnerships with other disciplines and community businesses.
Windows are a serious problem for the AV use inside the auditorium space: Auditoriums don’t have to be windowless.
Natural light, views and windows area priority.
Transparency in this building, seeing out and seeing in: fosters professionalism.
Good transitions coming out of the teaching spaces: as much positive interactions with the student walking out of class as inside class.
Make breakout spaces in buildings for coffee and sandwiches: important for students and staff to have positive interactions.

LEET!

Recently Comma Q was hired by our friends at Eclipse Engineering to assist LEET corporation with their first commercial arena court. The exciting game is still under development, but was conceived a few years back with great ideas in mind. The gameplay is fast paced similar to a hybridized lacrosse and ultimate frisbee, but typically played indoors. The Q team was charged with the task to assist in choosing an appropriate flooring material to accommodate the large curving court floor, and to design a GIANT backboard goal in coordination with Eclipse Engineering which we affectionately refer to as the “Endwall.”

VJ GluLamCam rox the GoPro, as a crane places glued laminated timber beams at the beat of one every 10 minutes on the 3rd floor of the Northside Granary, Bozeman. Executed to perfection by The Langlas construction clan (thanks to Tiny — who’s anything but tiny — for the improv handheld shots at the end). Music by Little Pieces:

Comma-Q and the MSU College of Business!

Comma-Q Architecture and Hennebery Eddy Architects have been selected to design the new Jake Jabs College of Business at Montana State University!

Earlier this year Mr. Jabs donated $25M to the MSU College of Business. The gift will used, in part, to establish a new business school at MSU. The new building will be welcoming, innovative and comfortable and serve as a hub for campus activity. Our entire team is extremely excited to be a part of this important new building and look forward to great things in 2012!
